Vincenzo Montella’s Milan got off to an impressive start, beating Girondins de Bordeaux 2-1 with a Suso brace.
The new Coach had no new signings in the squad for this test, so relied on old faces and some returning from loan spells elsewhere.
The Rossoneri broke the deadlock when Suso pounced on a defensive error on the edge of the box and kept his cool to get round the goalkeeper from a tight angle.
Suso was on target again after Jeremy Menez won back possession in midfield and sparked a Jack Bonaventura counter, rolling across for Suso’s well-taken curler into the far bottom corner.
Montella made numerous changes at half-time and Bordeaux seemed more sprightly, but failed to make the most of a Jose Mauri error and Gabriel got his hands to a Sertic effort that seemed to be going out anyway.
Girondins Bordeaux did get one back when Malcom cut back to surprise defenders and sent Gabriel the wrong way with a low shot on the turn.
Moments later it was almost 2-0, but a curling Traore cross was just past Malcom at the far post. Luiz Adriano threatened to restore the two-goal cushion too, his low shot well beaten away by the goalkeeper.
Malcom also forced a save from Gabriel when one-on-one and in stoppages Luiz Adriano tried and failed to nutmeg the shot-stopper on a Jose Mauri assist.
