Montpellier v Rennes
French Ligue 1
Date: Saturday, 27th August
Kick Off: 19:00 BST
Venue: Stade de la Mosson (Montpellier).

Montpellier will be trying to get back to winning ways when they host Rennes in the South of France. Montpellier didn’t look great when they beat Angers in the first game of the season. Their problem is that they don’t play so good as a team but they have some very interesting individual players like Ryad Boudebouz and Casimir Ninga. When these players click the fans will see some wonderful moves and goals. When they don’t then we see what happened last weekend when they went down too easy 3-1 at St Etienne.

Rennes lost to Nice just by 1-0 in the first week and then beat Nancy at home 2-0 but that didn’t tell us much because Nancy is amongst the favorites to be relegated. Rennes does have a decent defence though and will be looking to give the hosts a very difficult match here.

Montpellier v Rennes: Head to Head

Montpellier has a great home record over Rennes who hasn’t won this fixture since 2011 and five games have been played since. Still some of those games have been draws. The last time the teams played here the home side eased to a 2-0 win. The last three games have seen fewer than 3 goals but this fixture usually sees a few so we could see a change here.

Montpellier v Rennes: Prediction

Montpellier is a good side but we will have to see them go a few gears up to see it. They have good players and should be able to threaten Rennes, but it’s hard to fully discount Rennes from this game both teams will have chances and so we will look into different markets for this match.
