A month after the last outing together in the 4-0 victory against VfB Stuttgart in the middle of March, FC Bayern can finally welcome back their best striker. Robert Lewandowski completed the majority of full training on Wednesday morning with his teammates at Säbener Straße and thereby took another further big step towards making his comeback.

Coach Hansi Flick announced on Monday that the striker had made an “outstanding impression” in his rehab training after the ligament injury to his right knee and it is hoped, “he will be back on Saturday.” FCB are away to Mainz 05 and victory would secure the 31st league title in the club’s history – having the support of the leading goalscorer in the Bundesliga (35 goals) would certainly not go amiss.

There is also good news about Serge Gnabry and Corentin Tolisso. Two weeks after testing positive for coronavirus, Gnabry returned to the training ground on Wednesday and completed his first running drills. Tolisso, who had to undergo an operation in the middle of February due to a ruptured tendon in his left thigh, also completed his first light training session on Wednesday morning.
