As The Pharaohs are preparing to take on DR Congo this Wednesday when 2019 Total AFCON Group A enters its match-day 2, Egypt’s coach Javier Aguirre would once again rely on the exceptional talents of Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah. He can also grab some comfort from the fact he has someone else to deliver; the opening match winner Mahmoud Trezeguet Hassan.

Holding the nickname of French striker David Trezeguet (as he was though to look like him while in the ranks of Al Ahly youngsters), the Egyptian version of Trezeguet (24) is considered one of the Pharaohs’ promising talents. He cut his teeth through the ranks of Ahly juniors until he was promoted to the first team in 2012 while he was still 18. After winning numerous titles with The Red Devils (including the lucrative CAF Champions League), Trezeguet joined Belgian giants Anderlecht in 2015.

Loan spells to Royal Mouscron and Turkey side Kasimpasa was followed by a permanent deal with later last summer. Trezeguet proved himself to the extent that he was nominated as Turkish Super Lig best player last season.

Trezeguet produced nine (9) goals and as many assists for Kasimpasa this season, and he is now set for a new step in his career, with the likes of Turkish giants Galatasaray, Italy’s Inter Milan and France’s Olympique Lyon interested in his services.

And after scoring just two international goals (both in friendlies) since 2015 with The Pharaohs, Trezeguet shined in the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers scoring three goals. His form continued to see him scoring the finals first goal against Zimbabwe last Friday.

He will once again partner Salah as Egypt is looking forward for another win that could all but see them in the next round of the tournament.
