There were hugs all round at United’s training session on Thursday afternoon as new signing Fred and goalkeeper David De Gea joined up with the squad.

Both players flew in to Los Angeles after taking a short holiday following their involvement in the World Cup.

Fred, who was also confirmed as a our new no.17, trained away from the main group as he began his pre-season programme with the Reds, while those who played in the match against AC Milan did some recovery work in the gym and pool; the remainder of the players took part in a more intense session on the pitch at UCLA.

De Gea did some light fitness work with the Reds’ goalkeeping coaches and was also treated to a special meeting with American professional wrestler Rey Mysterio, who is a huge fan of the Spaniard. The United stopper is also a big admirer of Rey, who presented David with a personalised mask similar to the one he wears.

Next up for the Reds is a final training session at UCLA on Friday morning before the squad head to Detroit in preparation for the International Champions Cup match against Liverpool on Saturday.
