Young Boys vs Shakhtar Donetsk:
Champions League Qualifiers.
Date: Wednesday, August 3, 2016,
Kick-Off: 19:15 UK,
Venue: Stade de Suisse (Bern).

Swiss club Young Boys Bern are set to climb a mountain as they play at home to Ukraine side Shakhar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round to quest for a revival after a 2-0 lost to the former at away.

Young Boys were not able to build on their 2-0 victory at home to St. Gallen as they lost 2-0 bitterly to the Ukrainian side fortnight ago in Donetsk.

Shakhtar Donetsk have been ever present in European competitions and recently saw past Young Boys at home in the first leg qualifying encounter and would look forward to continue that impressive performance in the second leg.

Form Guide

Shakhtar Donetsk look impressive as they won three games on the run in their last five games and are still unbeaten in all competitions, four wins and just a draw with 14 goals scored and four goals allowed in their net from these last five games played.

While Young Boys have won once, lost two and draw two, with seven goals scored and concede eight, and have kept just one clean sheet that was 2-0 won at home over St. Gallen in last five matches across all competitions.

Young Boys vs Shakhtar Donetsk: Head-to-Head

The only time the two teams clashed was the first leg of this qualifying round which resulted in 2-0 win to Shakhtar Donetsk. For Young Boys, that was their first ever meeting with a football team from Ukraine.

Shakthar had played against Swiss teams on 10 occasions and were victorious in 7, losing 2 and drawing 1. They had a 100% win record at home after winning in each of the 5 match. While playing in Switzerland, they won 2, lost 2 and drawn 1.

Shakthar Donestsk’s last trip to Switzerland was to meet FC Basel for the UEFA Champions League group stage fixture on September 2008, which they won by 2-1.

Young Boys vs Shakhtar Donetsk: Prediction

Shakhtar Donetsk’s four wins in the last five games gives them an edge over Young Boys who are on a bad run of results in recent outings. They carry a 2-0 lead from the first leg and a side of their quality must be confident enough to defend.

Young Boys lacked character in the first round and failed to threaten Donetsk on several occasions but they have played just a game at home which they won 2-0 over St. Gallen in the last five outings. Therefore their home record has not been bad and only if Young Boys compose and discipline themselves very well they can turn the deficit around but it is a difficult task for them.

Expected Score line: Young Boys Bern 1-2 Shakhtar Donetsk.
