Hellas Verona have announced that midfielder Mattia Zaccagni has recovered from coronavirus.

The Gialloblu revealed the 24-year-old had tested positive for COVID-19 in mid-March when he was already in self-isolation as a precautionary measure because of their match against Sampdoria on March 8.

Zaccagni scored during the game and Samp later went on to provide several positive tests among their players.

He was the first Verona player to be found positive for coronavirus and the club has announced his recovery on their official website today.

“Hellas Verona FC announce that, according to the protocol, Mattia Zaccagni has carried out a diagnostic test for the coronavirus-Covid 19 in the past few hours,” the statement read. “The examination was negative.

The footballer has therefore recovered and will no longer be subjected to home isolation.”

Zaccagni scored one goal and provided seven assists in his 23 Serie A appearances for Verona this season.
