AC Milan vs Juventus
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Saturday, 22nd October 2016
Kick-Off: 19:45 UK,
Venue: Stadio San Siro (Milan).

It’s going to be arguably the biggest game of round nine when AC Milan host Juventus at the Stadio San Siro this Saturday.

After a past turbulent couple of seasons, the Rossoneri are finally hoping to get things right under Vincenzo Montella. The arrival of new ownership before the end of this year also marks a much-awaited change fans have been yearning for – especially due to the influx of fresh cash that will surely aid the club in the transfer market. Although it has not been all smooth sailing, things appear to be slowly clicking for Milan, who have not lost a game since a 1-0 reversal against Udinese on September 11th.

Since then, they have won four and drawn one. Given the closeness in the table – namely, Napoli’s loss to Roma – this impressive run has seen them jump up to third spot. Were the season to end this weekend, Milan would be back in the Champions League for the first time since the 2013/2014 season, which will be a huge achievement considering they missed out on a Europa League spot to Sassuolo after losing to Juventus in the Coppa Italia final.

Milan’s cross-town rivals Inter beat Juventus earlier this term, and the Diavolo surely will love nothing but to get revenge on the team who have repeatedly frustrated them time and time again. The Rossoneri were the last team to win the Scudetto before the Bianconeri began what could be a sixth straight title this May.

Meanwhile, Juventus were far from their best against Lyon, but the Bianconeri still got the job done. Thanks to an excellent spot-kick save from Gigi Buffon and a late strike from Juan Cuadrado, La Vecchia Signora remain on top of their Champions League quartet. They needed a brace from Paulo Dybala to dispatch an Udinese side who were hoping to spring another upset, but nonetheless benefited from last weekend’s blockbuster clash between Napoli and Roma.

Sitting five points clear, Juventus are still by far the heavy favourites to make it a sixth consecutive Scudetto. And they are definitely the favourites to also pick up all three points here. They’ve won their past three Serie A trips to the Stadio San Siro, and are the second-highest scoring side in the league behind Roma’s 19.

AC Milan vs Juventus: Prediction

Both teams will be missing key players for this game. Milan skipper Riccardo Montolivo suffered an ACL injury and is not set to return until next year and is joined on the side-lines by Andrea Bertolacci and Luca Antonelli. Juventus, meanwhile, will have to make do without Giorgio Chiellini, Kwadwo Asamoah, Daniele Rugani, and Mario Mandzukic.

Expect goals – and perhaps a good amount of them here. Milan have scored an impressive seven in their past two, but struggle to keep a clean sheet. And Juventus simply have no problems finding a way to score. Only one side – Sevilla – has managed to keep them quiet this season, and so fans could be in for some major end-to-end action here. Juventus, however, should win this one and keep their long-standing unbeaten record against Milan intact.
