Liverpool continue their pre-season campaign as they face-off Championship side Huddersfield Town for the Shankly Trophy on Wednesday.

The hosts for Wednesday evening were pretty busy in the preparations for the new season and are in some fine touch. The Terriers had comfortable seen off local sides like Guiseley, Accrington Stanley, Rochdale and Oldham Athletic. And they will be aiming for a big scalp when Premiership giants Liverpool come to town.

Liverpool on the other hand were victorious in each of the three friendlies they played so far. They managed to comfortably see-off the likes of Tranmere Rovers, Fleetwood Town and Wigan Athletic.

The Reds are easily missing a number of key players due to their involvement in Euro 2016 and they will only join the squad just ahead of the US tour. Liverpool were handed a slight scare when their new signing Joel Matip suffered an ankle injury during the friendly against Wigan. But the latest reports suggest that the defender will be fit in time to join the squad in USA.

Huddersfield Town head coach David Wagner and Jurgen Klopp were colleagues during the duo’s time at Borussia Dortmund. Wagner was the manager of Borussia Dortmund side since 2011 and resigned on November 2015. At one point it was rumored that he will be joining Klopp’s backroom staff at Anfield. Just like Klopp Wagner also spend five seasons at Mainz as a player between 1991 and 1995.

Huddersfield Town vs Liverpool: Head-to-Head Stats

The clashed between Huddersfield Town and Liverpool could be dated back to the early 1920s. The Terriers lead the overall head-to-head stats with 31 wins against Liverpool’s 27 in 75 meetings between the two sides, while 17 games ended in draws.

The latest meeting between these two sides was at Huddersfield in the third round of the FA Cup in the 1999-2000 season, which Liverpool won by 2-0. That game as their first ever meeting since Huddersfield got relegated from Football League in 1972.

Huddersfield Town vs Liverpool: Prediction

Liverpool had made a good start to the preparation campaign by winning each of their three matches comfortably by keeping clean sheets. This Liverpool squad which consists of a number of youngsters were hardly tested but the battle with Huddersfield Town could be an intense one.

The Championship side were already involved in five friendlies, winning all of them. They players will be in a better shape and fitness than the Liverpool squad. Their stadium is already sold out creating the atmosphere for an entertaining clash.

On paper, Liverpool will win this without much sweat, but I believe this is going to a tough one. I expect the game to end in a stalemate at the end of full time and won’t be surprise if we witness no goals at all.
