Inter Milan vs Torino
Italian Serie A.
Date: Wednesday, 26th October 2016
Kick-Off: 19:45 UK,
Venue: Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (Milan).

A third straight loss will have Inter desperate for a better outcome as they take on Torino at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Wednesday evening.

It goes without saying that Frank de Boer is a man under crushing pressure right now. The Dutch tactician may have breathed a sigh of relief after his team picked up an ugly 1-0 win over Southampton to keep their Europa League campaign alive. However, any remote good feelings quickly evaporated as the Nerazzurri stumbled to a 2-1 loss against Atalanta in this past weekend’s Nerazzurri derby.

That means that Inter now have earned just one point from their past four Serie A games and now sit in a dismal 14th spot in the table. It’s quite shocking as things seemed to be on the up and up after picking up a historic win over Juventus last month in the Derby d’Italia, but for Nerazzurri fans, that surely must feel like a lifetime ago.

Meanwhile, Torino come into this game having drawn Lazio to make it six games sans defeat. The Granata have been in solid form this season and if they can keep things up, will be in definite contention for a European football spot. The team appears to be really growing and developing under Sinisa Mihajlovic’s tenure, and star shot-stopper Joe Hart is increasingly growing more and more comfortable in his new surroundings. Still, the English international is still looking for his first clean sheet at home, but will have to wait until next month to achieve that feat.

Torino surely will want to take advantage of Inter’s struggles in order to make it a seventh straight game without a loss as they chase a European football spot. Will the Nerazzurri suffer yet another setback in front of their home fans? Or will this mark the turning point for de Boer and his struggling side?

Inter vs Torino: Head-to-head statistics

  • Inter have conceded at least two goals in their past three matches, whilst losing all of those.
  • The Nerazzurri have conceded first in nearly 80 per cent of their games so far.
  • Inter have won six, drawn six, and lost eight out of their past 20 home games against teams ranked higher than them in the table.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 12 out of Torino’s last 14 games.
  • The Granata are undefeated in their past six league games.
  • Torino have won 50 per cent of their last 20 away games against teams below them in the table (whilst drawing the other six and losing four).

Inter once enjoyed the huge historical advantage here – with a 21-match unbeaten run between 1994 and January 2015. However, Torino finally ended that by beating them 1-0 and also won this same fixture at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza last season.

Inter vs Torino: Prediction

Inter have yet to keep a clean sheet in any of their games, whilst Torino’s defense is still a work in progress. As such, neither side will be able to keep the other from scoring, which could create a more open game from start to finish. The Nerazzurri will be desperate to pick up a much needed win, but they are a side in disarray at the moment, meaning that all three points will be a tough task.

Meanwhile, the Granata have been in strong form and should be able to do enough to frustrate their opponents. They have won the past two meetings here at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and do not look like a team who will leave Milan without at least a point in hand. We’re going on the double chance for Torino to pick up at least a draw here.
